World Museum Liverpool went through a bit of a rebrand a couple of years ago. Back then it was called Liverpool Museum and did the usual museum things: history, natural history, geology, astronomy, old stuff. And very good it was too

But the forthcoming (and now open) Museom of Liverpool, which is about Liverpool, rather queered that pitch. So now the former has been restyled as World Museum Liverpool.

The World Museum has an excellent natural history section, including an aquarium, a planetarium, bug house and seasonal exhibitions.

There are cafes and gift shops but, really, World Museum is the sort of things everyone under the age of ten should be dragged to at least twice a year whether they like it or not.

Expect dinosaur casts, sarcophagi, meteorites and a cafe selling cake. It’s also based in one of the most impressive buildings in Liverpool
